Thanks to the support of the Lions Club of Bowning and District, and event organisers; Kim Storey, Alarna Hall, Jake Rofe, and Louise and Dave Dean, the event attracted over 200 people to theYass Soldiers Club.
This year the theme was “Glam, Glitz& Gangsta” formal wear, inviting the men and women of Yass and surrounds to dress up and support their local rescue helicopter.
Guests were again entertained by live band, The Chalkie White Band, and encouraged by Elders Auctioneers, Michael Coogan and Tom Johnston to dust off the cobwebs and reach deep into their wallets.
“The support from Tom and Michael at Elders, and other local organisations has been fantastic. The live auction alone raised over $13,000,” Snowy Hydro SouthCare CEO Owen Finegan said.
There were many items up for grabs including a dressed lamb, which was donated back to Snowy Hydro SouthCare, and auctioned off a second time.
Snowy Hydro SouthCare past patient, Troy Cook spoke at the event, relaying the day he came off his motor bike at Captain’s Flat last year.
He described the relief he felt when he heard the sound of helicopter coming to retrieve him as he lay on the ground with a serious back injury. Troy was quickly transported to The Canberra Hospital, and later to Sydney to receive specialised care.
Another patient was Sophie Harrison, a local Yass resident who was involved ina motor vehicle accident on Dog Trap Road last year. The helicopter landed at the scene of the accident, transporting Sophie to The Canberra Hospital in a fleeting 15 minutes for further care.
Sophie has made a stellar recovery and said she owed her life to the Snowy Hydro SouthCare Rescue Helicopter. Over three years this event and the Yass community have helped to raise over $60,000 for the Snowy Hydro SouthCare Rescue Helicopter.
In 2011-2012, the helicopter attended 450 missions, 105 of these were to the Yass, Young and Goulburn area.
