“Live life, love wool” is the theme for next year and invites year 7 to 11 students to design a garment that reflects their own style and is suitable for winter in New York, Tokyo, Paris, Moscow or New Delhi.
The brief is outlined in detail at the redesigned Wool4School website which is now live for those who wish to be inspired early.
Working with Education Services Australia (ESA), The Woolmark Company has established a wool education Portal at www.wool4school.com where Wool4SchoolTM and Learn About Wool kits for Primary and Secondary Schools are now available.
As a national, not-for-profit company owned by all Australian education ministers, ESA supports the delivery of national priorities and initiatives in education.
Extensive digital resources associated with the Wool4School program, Learn About Wool and Sam the Lamb Application can be found on Scootle (www.scootle.edu.au), the online gateway to high-quality, searchable teaching resources aligned to the Australian Curriculum.
AWI Group Manager, Trade Education Julie Davies added: “Just as we work with textile specialists, manufacturers and designers around the world explaining the endless possibilities of our natural fibre, we are delighted to also offer Australian students many resources associated with the farm to fashion story as well.”
Wool4school achieved a breakthrough in 2014, thanks in part to HRH The Duchess of Cambridge who met the previous year 10 competition winner Sophie Aylward and the dress she designed for the Duchess.
The meeting helped inspire 10,000 students who registered for Wool4schoolTM this year, with 1040 entries more than 400 schools.
From the very high standard of entries this year came a series of spectacular designs in keeping with students’ favourite fashion eras.
The winning year 10 design has now been made into reality and will be featured in the February edition of Girlfriend magazine while the winning year 11 student will be learning from the best through a short internship with designers Camilla and Marc.
Teachers and students are now invited to register for this real life fashion design experience through the website and in doing so utilise the significant classroom resources associated with the project.
In 2015 there is $10,000 worth of prizes for both students and teachers.
