Water temperature has held up well with some good reports on game fish, tuna, mia mia and a few big-eyed cod from the shelf area.
Bad weather and cold conditions have had a dampening effect on most anglers, but there are a few hardened anglers that have braved these conditions and boated some reasonable catches.
Four boaties went out for the competition and no fish drawn from the hat were caught.
The rock, beach and estuary winner was Dale Evens with a nice 700-gram bream which also won her the cock-o-the walk, as well as a tidy cash prize.
The blue water winner was Scott Rigby with a snapper which was about 10 grams lighter than Evans’ bream.
Preparations continue for the club’s mighty fishing bonanza set for the October long weekend.
There will be generous cash prizes for all the senior sections and quality angling equipment from a generous sponsor.
The weigh-in will be at 2pm on the Saturday and 1pm on the Sunday.
There will be a small entry fee.
Should the competition be a wipe out, all prizes will be drawn by a participant’s entry number.
Should reasonable weather prevail any prize not won will be the subject of the draw.
It’s a family friendly competition and hardly any junior anglers failed to receive a prize last year.
More information can be found in the Fishing Monthly August and September issues.
Until next month keep those rods held high and those lines tight.
Good fishing.
