Scott Dawson and his son Tom took Daniel Betts out on Wagonga Inlet on Saturday for his first ever legal-sized flathead catch, a beauty at 54cm.

Cam Spooner caught and released a great 90cm dusky flathead fishing land based at The Inlet jetty, Narooma on Saturday using bait.

There have also been reports of mulloway in Tuross Lake and Pam Feeley got another nice fish on Monday night in howling winds, which “was a challenge, which I love!”

Narooma local Tricia got her PB dusky flathead at 65cm on Saturday as well as 34 in total with an assortment of species from tailor, trevally, bream and flathead.

Young Sammy from Tuross Head caught an unusual species in Wagonga Inlet on Friday that some reckon is a “big eye” or a red bulls eye.

Young Zane meanwhile celebrated his 7th birthday at Montague Island on Saturday on his first ever fishing trip getting a nice snapper.

While the kingfish were not there on Saturday with the water dirty and green, the snapper made up for it.

The kingfish had been at the island just a few days prior with big fish around the 1m mark, but that was when the water was clean, blue and with good current flow.

Speaking of snapper, the fishing has been excellent for bigger snapper up to 60cm in the 60m waters off Potato Point.

The stranger scenario of catching beach pelagics in this deep water continues, with Georgia Poyner getting tailor and salmon at Potato Point on Saturday.

Another winter time attraction for those with long arms and big lungs are crayfish with reports of plenty around.

Local angler Brett McDonald meanwhile went on another broadbill swordfish mission down at Mallacoota on Friday and his young apprentice Nick Lazzaro had an epic 45- minute battle with a 193kg broadie. 

The boys did try for a broadbill swordfish in the local offshore canyons out of Bermagui earlier in the week, but did not have any luck.

There were reports of an even bigger 200kg fish being cleaned at the new ocean ramp fish cleaning table over the weekend, so it seems word has well and truly gotten out about the Mallacoota daytime broadies.

Visiting anglers are hoping for some big catches in the annual Canberra Yellowfin Tuna Tournament on at Bermagui this weekend.

Longliners have been getting yellowfin out wide but the participants have their work cut out for them as there have only been a handful of yellowfin caught locally by game fishers so far. 

The bluefin tuna are also yet to show in numbers. 

Some early specimens in the current annual migration north from Victorian waters have been seen on the Far South Coast and fish to 80kg have been taken near Marlo, just a few days swimming from Bermagui.
