This will help create around 1000 new jobs across the region.

“These new jobs won’t be limited to specialist disability care providers,” said Minister for Social Services, Christian Porter. 

“Because the NDIS will give individuals greater choice and control, there will be increased demand across a range of industries. Some people ... may spend more on building modifications or transport, for example.”

Mr Porter and Eden-Monaro MP Dr Peter Hendy marked the NDIS countdown at Treehouse, a provider of early intervention services for children with disability, last week.

Mr Porter said the NDIS represented a significant change from the way disability services had been delivered and encouraged all participants and providers to get ready.

“The NDIS is one of the largest reforms in Australia’s history,” he said. 

“It will fund the reasonable supports participants need to live full lives and achieve their goals, whether in education, employment, social participation, independence, living arrangements or health and wellbeing.”

Dr Hendy said he was delighted to see the NDIS become a reality for the people of Eden-Monaro. 

“It is estimated that this important scheme will support a better life for almost 2800 participants in Eden- Monaro when it is fully rolled out,” he said.

“The establishment of a National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) office in Bega, combined with the additional investment into disability services is set to create significant jobs and growth across southern NSW.

“I encourage people ... with a disability to visit the NDIS website to check their eligibility and start to think about how the NDIS can help them achieve their goals.

Local businesses and service providers should also visit the website to find out how they can take advantage of the significant job and growth opportunities that the NDIS offers.”
