Some see a new strategy to be devised over the next three months, including 15 new climate science jobs, as a positive outcome, the CSIRO Staff Association says, but others would say, once bitten, twice shy.
The original announcement in February cut 350 jobs, including 100 full-time in its Oceans and Atmosphere department. CSIRO revised this to 74. Campaigning and industrial disputes set potential redundancies at 61, of which 38 are voluntary and 23 in redeployment.
CSIRO chief executive Larry Marshall's February announcement was followed by union analysis in May that showed the cuts would be deeper than estimated.
