Phil Gallagher, or Mister Maker as he’s otherwise known, first put on the vest 10 years ago but never dreamed he would achieve rockstar status and be flown the world over to entertain thousands of children.
The man behind arts, craft and silly songs will visit Wollongong for the first time late January, bringing his live show to the WIN Entertainment Centre.
“When I was a child I used to idolise the kids TV hosts on the BBC in the UK. I used to pretend to be them and make up my own radio shows and TV shows,” he said.
Gallagher would push his parents sofa around to become a makeshift stage for his plush toys and puppets to perform for his family.
“My mum actually joked the other day … she was really laughing that not much has changed really, I’m still putting on shows and funny voices and playing characters and being a big kid,” he said.
The reason for his success is attributed to craft being “universal” and “multi-generational”, so the show has something for all ages.
While he loves seeing parents and grandparents pulling out their phones to take selfies with the “larger than life” Shapes characters.
