The Granite Hills Wind Farm will comprise approximately 35 wind turbines, each having a nominal power of 3.45MW.
The project is a joint venture between an Australian company “Willy Willy” owned and operated by two men, Antony Shingler and Guy Dawson, and French company Akuo Energy.
The Nimmitabel Advancement Group arranged for representatives of Granite Hills to present the initial proposed wind farm project to a consultation meeting of about 30 residents at the Nimmitabel Community Centre on Thursday, February 16.
The Granite Hills Wind Farm website granitehillswindfarm.com said the business would work with the Nimmitabel Advancement Group (NAG) to provide facilities to enhance the Nimmitabel township much like the Boco Rock Wind Farm does with the community grants scheme through the Snowy Monaro Regional Council.
Snowy Monaro Regional Council administrator Dean Lynch said he knew nothing about the proposed Granite Hills Wind Farm until last week when he was meeting Boco Rock Wind Farm representatives.
“Granite Hills Wind Farm doesn’t need approval from council to go ahead, however specific requirements need to be met so that the community gets the most out of it,” he said.
President of NAG Vicki Pollard said that Antony Shingler had contacted her just before Christmas about holding the meeting at the Community Centre.
“I told him that we didn’t meet again until February and he contacted me again in January this year.
“They supplied me with the fliers that I put in the mail and they paid for everything.
“Although NAG hosted the meeting, as a body we are not for or against the wind farm and we will host the community meetings in the future,” she said.
Construction is planned to start in 2018.
