The perpetrator was reportedly mad as a cut snake –because it was one.
A baby brown snake slithered into the station, but officers – wary and well-informed on wildlife care – soon had the situation under control, reports the Cootamundra Local Area Command Facebook page.
The offender was escorted out of the dock and gently given a move along direction from the police station.
Unless there is a risk to others, police recommend using professionals to remove wildlife.
Most snakes bites occur when people are trying to harm the creatures, or surprise them.
It is also an offence to kill brown snakes.
Police used a shovel to assist in the move along direction, but did not to put the snake on death row.
