They are vowing to help unseat the Liberals in the North Sydney by-election.
Furious about forced council mergers, groups such as ‘Save Gundagai Shire’ and ‘Gundagai Council In Exile’ worked to defeat the government at the Orange by-election last year.
That by-election saw Shooters and Fishers candidate Philip Donato win the seat from the National Party.
Now, the groups have another government seat in their sights, with the former Save Our Councils Coalition (SOCC) president running for North Sydney.
Protestor spokesman John Knight told The Gundagai Independent that Orange scared the Nationals.
They wanted to do the same to the Liberals: “SOCC has supported us … and they’re very keen for us to come,” Mr Knight said.
