The Goulburn teacher, who was born in Crookwell, is the Crookwell Showgirl Coordinator, Secretary of the Southern NSW Hereford Group, and ASC Next Gen's Group 7 Delegate.
Six years ago she became a member of the Crookwell AP&H Society and was crowned Crookwell Showgirl in 2016.
Ms Johnson said it was her love for agriculture that drove her to join multiple community groups.
“I wanted to be more involved in the community and meet people,” Ms Johnson said.
Now, as part of the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW Foundation (RASF), Ms Johnson has received a Community Futures Grant, valued at $25,000, which allows community members to give back to projects in their local area.
Following her time as a steward for the cattle selection at the annual Crookwell Show, she has decided to put the money into a new cattle shed.
“We usually don’t have the space to house them at the Crookwell Show. It’s either really wet or hot. We normally put in panels that we borrow from multiple people and tie them up there,” Ms Johnson said.
About 180 stud cattle were housed at the show this year, and she hopes this new space will allow more people to get involved in the competition.
“As a steward, I knew it was needed, and we want to encourage more cattle in the show. We get so many as it is and a new facility is what we needed,” she said. “This is a way to help out and showcase the agricultural product we have in the region.”
