The Goulburn Rodeo Club as we know it today held its first Goulburn Rodeo on February 11, 1968.
“On the 17th February 2018 we are celebrating our 50th rodeo” begins Fiona Battiste, assistant treasurer and life member of the club.
“The first rodeo was run to raise funds for The Sisters of Mercy, and in the last 20 years the club has donated $150,000 to the local community” Fiona added.
Spectators will witness a day of action with rough riding events such as saddle bronc, bareback bull riding and steer riding
You can also enjoy the timed rodeo events including steer wrestling, rope and tie, and team roping. Then there’s also the ladies barrel race, steer undecorating, breakaway roping and the junior barrel race.
“The club is also holding the ABCRA Championships rodeo, so we are expecting large numbers of competitors” Fiona said.
Plus, “we have the over 40s bullride with a $3000 prize pool. They now have their own association and are getting a bigger following from cowboys and spectators.”
Also, “all the open events have buckles for the winners and there is around $17,000 in prize money. "
Adding some live country music to the half-time break, “For our 50th rodeo we have organised the very talented Roo Arcus to perform” Fiona enthused.
There will also be plenty of other features to enjoy at the event, including the BBQ and bar facilities that are available, country and western clothing, children’s rides, the mechanical bull, plus Coffee N Cream will be there for the day.
“The club has kept our prices affordable for the whole family and we have not increased our gate prices for many years. We are one of the cheapest rodeos to attend” Fiona notes.
Prices for adults are $15 each, children 7-16 $10 each, and a family pass is $40.
Finally, Fiona pointed out that “We could not run a successful rodeo without our sponsors”, so make sure you actively support them.
