The Country Universities Centre in Goulburn has partnered with CQUniversity to deliver Bachelor of Education degrees for Early Childhood (course code CC12) or Primary (course code CC14).
These will be delivered at the Goulburn facility via a combination of online lectures and face-to-face tutorials.
“This is an exciting opportunity for our community,” said Ash Jones, centre manager for CUC Goulburn. “This degree will come with support from myself, as well as local tutors and from the other centres across NSW.”
Before working at CUC, Ash was a high school teacher. “Teaching is such an amazing profession, and it is awesome that this will be offered in Goulburn, by locals for locals,” she added.
“The best part will be the network it creates, so students are supported by their peers and can obtain the best result possible through this support network.”
The courses are four years full-time or eight years part-time, but they are also structured in such a way that you can gain a diploma at the end of the first year.
Commencing in semester one 2019, you apply directly to CUC Goulburn, rather than through the Universities Admission Centre, and the conventional entry requirement is an ATAR of 61.85 plus an essay component. However, there are also alternative pathways to entry available so you should discuss these with CUC Goulburn.

These degrees have already been offered via the CUC Snowy Monaro facility in Cooma. Student Michelle Freebody has been video conferencing from Goulburn to Cooma since February 2018 and accessing CUC Goulburn’s resources.
“Without CUC I would [have] never been able to attend university and fulfil my dream of being a school counsellor,” Michelle said.
“As a mature aged student who is a mother and needs to work, I could never attend a university face-to-face and distance education was just too daunting and overwhelming, but with the support, guidance and facilities they supply enable me to finally achieve my degree”.
CQUniversity also conducted their own study to see the impact of offering these courses in CUC Cooma as well as the Geraldton Universities Centre in WA.
Two of the things they discovered were; “Participation rates in initial teacher education are growing within the Geraldton and Cooma regions, meaning that increased professional capabilities will benefit the regions’ schools and the regional economy,” and “The support structures that are embedded within the Universities Centre model enables students to succeed moreso than if they were studying via the traditional distance mode.”
