If you are looking for something fun, and maybe a little bit exotic, for children and adults during school holidays, the National Zoo and Aquarium is the place to go.

Canberra’s National Zoo and Aquarium is one of the major tourist attractions in the ACT and region.

It is unique as it features a combined aquarium, metropolitan zoo and an easily walked open-range section, which in 2017, more than doubled the size of the existing zoo.

This has not only proved to be popular with guests, but also allows the zoo to expand its work with critical breeding programs for endangered animals.

As well as featuring amazing animal enclosures, the National Zoo and Aquarium hosts themed landscapes including waterfalls, a vast fern gully and beautiful picnic and barbecue areas.

The new Adventure Land playground is due to open this summer, adding a whole new level of zoo fun. Are you looking for a unique and educational experience during school holidays for primary-aged children?

Zoocation offers a fun-filled day where children will get up close and personal with many of the zoo’s animals, play games, make toys for the animals, and will learn something along the way.

Staffed and developed by the experienced and qualified education guides of the National Zoo and Aquarium, this program prides itself on delivering a program like no other.

Zoocation runs between the hours of 9am-4pm on weekdays for two weeks in ACT school holidays from January 7.

The National Zoo and Aquarium is also home to Jamala Wildlife Lodge, Australia’s number one rated deluxe accommodation in the Australian Hotel Association 2017 Awards.

Jamala provides guests with the opportunity to relax in the African style atmosphere of the lodge, as well as experience close encounters with some of the world’s most dangerous and endangered animals.

Comprising of 18 boutique suites – Giraffe Treehouses, Jungle Bungalows and uShaka Lodge, Jamala Wildlife Lodge pairs the opulence of five-star accommodation with the thrill of a wild African safari.
