"We're celebrating 150 years of being an integral part of the community and we're very excited about it," President of the Parents & Citizens Association for the school, Charlotte Shields said.
The school will host a family open day on Saturday April 6th to honour the special occasion.
Starting at 10am, the open day will feature games for the kids, vintage car displays, art exhibitions, and a look at the history of the school and its surrounds.
Shields said that the thirty-two current students have been collecting oral histories from their predecessors, asking past students what their time at the school was like.
Recollections like arriving at the classroom on a horse, and the school closing its doors due to a measles epidemic will take centre stage on the day.
The teachers of the school have been looking into its history and will be publishing a book for the sesquicentenary.
They found that Kangaloon Public School was founded in 1869 after the community repeatedly requested a school be established.
The construction moved forward when land was donated by a local property owner, and the residents of Kangaloon came together to build the school.
The original students were mostly children of local dairy farmers who had moved into the area for the rich soils Kangaloon offered.
According to the visitor's book for the 1969 centenary celebrations, one thousand people turned out to the event. The school hopes to exceed that number this open day.
"We only have two dairy farms now, so the area has changed a lot, but it's nice to return to where you grew up. We have people coming from Queensland, the Northern Rivers and out west to be part of this," Shields said.
There will be memorabilia to mark the occasion available at the open day, including the book on the school's history.
