Modelling wedding dresses of yesteryear for the Inner Wheel club of the Southern Highlands, models Tara, Poppy and Mishka, looked as if they had stepped out from the past.
Poppy and Mishka both wore dresses from the 1800's and feature a bustle, with Poppy wearing a recreated apple blossom veil and Mishka wearing the antique lace veil with her two piece wedding dress. They were also wearing antique broaches.
The two dresses belong to local Bowral resident, Elaine Lye, whose great grandmother and great great grandmother wore the dresses to walk down the aisle. The exact date of each dress is unknown.
Tara wore a wedding dress from 1942, which belonged to Jeanette Moles' Aunt Flo. The dress was later disassembled and changed in to a velvet top. It was later reassembled to its original state for Aunt Flo's 100th birthday by Jeanette a number of years ago. The veil, also circa 1942, was worn by Jeanette on her wedding day.
The Southern Highlands branch of the Inner Wheel club will host a 'Wedding Fashions through the Centuries' high tea and fashion parade, featuring these dresses and many more on June 15 at Mittagong RSL.
