Extra heavy lambs top market at $320 a head

Lamb numbers lifted, there was a good run of trade lambs and a small offering of heavy weights. Store lamb numbers increased and there was a reasonable run of Merino lambs. The market sold to a dearer trend.

Restockers received $137-$173/head. The 2 score processing lambs to 16kg made $108-$147/head. The medium and heavy trade lambs reached $146-$189/head, averaging 830c/kg cwt. Heavy lambs made $188-$227/head or 850c/kg cwt on average. Extra heavy lambs topped at $320/head estimated at 44kg cwt. Merino trade lambs sold from $135-$174 and hoggets reached $210/head.

There was an increase in mutton numbers and the quality varied. Merinos were best supplied and prices were $5/head cheaper. Medium weight ewes sold from $100-$145/head. Heavy crossbreds received $140-$236/head.

Numbers eased and quality was back. There were a few well bred yearlings, a good run of weaners and a good run of heavy bullocks.

Better weaner steers sold from 307-315c/kg and heifers 248-263c/kg. Lighter and plainer lines ranged from 190-225c/kg. Medium weight feeder steers were 11c back selling from 279-296c/kg. Most heifers sold from 215-255c/kg with a pen of heavy heifers reaching 275c/kg.

Grown steers were back 13c ranging from 266-288c/kg and bullocks 270-299c/kg. Heavy grown heifers to process reached 256c/kg. Medium weight cows were firm to 10c dearer as weights increased and sold from 125-191c/kg. Heavy cows were firm to sell from 178-225c/kg with the prime heavy weights averaging 216c/kg.
