Every vineyard has a story, and Wallaroo's starts with a foreign correspondent and a journalist-turned-media-adviser buying a 300 acre sheep paddock in NSW's Hills of Hall district, near the ACT border, in 1993.
It is now one of the larger vineyards in the region with 25 acres under vine, 16 acres of which is Shiraz grapes, 7 acres being of the Cabernet Sauvignon variety, and the remainder is Reisling.
Its founders are Philip Williams (who still works full-time for the ABC as well), and Carolyn Jack.
They were busy preparing a new garden bed for 40 rose bushes when we called for this story.
They built the homestead in 1995. Carolyn describes it as "Georgian styling with an Aussie twist," featuring two big verandas.
Their goal was to make it feel like it's been there for well over 100 years, further aided by the way they've furnished and decorated it.
Thinking ahead, they also made sure the property would be suitable not just for paying guests to stay the night, but also hosting various events such as corporate gatherings or weddings, as well as being part of some regional festivals.
You may have even been to one of these already.
As examples, each year there is a Harvest Festival, a Spring Festival, and Carolyn noted they've just had the Fireside Festival which is a great way to still enjoy the outdoors in winter.
An event they're planning for October 26 is a doggy day out that will have platters for dogs, as well as separate ones for their owners, and it presents another opportunity to get out and be social in a very pretty location.

When it comes to the wine, Wallaroo provides grapes to winemakers nearby and fulfils supply contracts as well.
"Supplying top-label wines is a big part of our business," Carolyn says.
Winemakers who include neighbour Nick O'Leary, Tim Kirk at Clonakilla in nearby Murrumbateman, and Matt Burton from Gundog Estate in the Hunter Valley, are all regular customers.
They also commission expert local wine makers to create products under the Wallaroo label.
"We have some absolutely fantastic wine makers here," and the very first wine they commissioned the talented Nick O'Leary to produce won a regional gold medal.
More accolades have come since.
"We do testing in the vineyard to ensure the elements are right all the way through the winemaking process," Carolyn explains
"We're very concentrated on the standard of the fruit."
However, not happy to settle, they're also getting a master of wines to come in and help assess everything in order to get the best result in the tasted product.
It seems this is a story which has only just begun.
