Premier Gladys Berejiklian wrapped up her flying visit to Nowra on Tuesday with a stop off at the Nowra Showground to officially announce an almost $1 million funding boost for the Nowra Show Society.

South Coast MP Shelley Hancock, Shoalhaven Mayor Amanda Findley and Nowra Show president Mark Stewart were joined by show members and volunteers in turning the first sod for the planned upgrade of the cattle judging area on the southwestern corner of the showground precinct.
The $919,105 is part of the NSW Government's Regional Growth - Environment and Tourism fund and will allow Shoalhaven Council to undertake extensive works at the showground.

Enhancements to facilities will include fencing around the cattle judging ring, upgraded and increased seating including accessible seating and pathways, drainage and guttering to improve environmental outcomes, cattle ramp improvements, construction of a judging room/office, a kitchen upgrade to cater for events and amenities blocks - one upgraded block and one new block including disability access and showers.
The Premier was warmly welcomed by a large group of show society members and volunteers, Shoalhaven City Council representatives and even Buttercup the cow.
The announcement comes on top of $188,613 announced in September 2018 to fully fund the installation of new lighting on the Added Area of the Nowra Showground and upgrade power boards across the facility.
While on the South Coast, the Premier also inspected work on the Albion Park Bypass, looked over work on the Berry to Bomaderry upgrade of the Princes Highway, visited the new multi-level car park at the Shoalhaven District Hospital to witness the "topping out ceremony", had a quick bite to eat at NSW's best fish and chips at Pelican Rocks Cafe at Greenwell Point, met with the committee of the Pyree Literary Institute and looked at recent improvements to the iconic hall, visited the community kitchen and garden at Nowra East Public School and met with Shoalhaven City Turf Club members at their new updated function, dining room and viewing area.
The project is scheduled to get underway over the next two years and once complete will support a number of growing niche agricultural events that will support tourism on the South Coast, attract visitors and create local jobs.
