Premier Steven Marshall says job vacancies across SA are near record levels with about 15,000 positions to be filled across a range of sectors.

"We need as many people as possible to consider a fantastic job in regional South Australia," he told reporters on Thursday.

"We know that there are great agriculture jobs, there are also great tourism and hospitality jobs in regional South Australia.

"So I'm just encouraging people who are looking for work at the moment to consider all of their options."

SA will fly in about 100 seasonal workers from Vanuatu next week as farmers struggle to find people for fruit-picking and similar positions.

Ordinarily, those jobs would be filled by backpackers but COVID-19 has resulted in a sharp fall in available labour.

Mr Marshall said the workers being flown in would be required to spend 14 days in hotel quarantine before taking up positions.

Vanuatu has been one of the world's safest countries during the pandemic with only one reported coronavirus case so far in a returned traveller.

The premier said the government was working closely with the state's agriculture sector to understand which areas were in most need of workers.

But he said SA was not unique and other states were experiencing the same issues.

"We've been used to having a large number of foreign workers in Australia at this time of year doing these types of jobs," he said.

"We don't have them this year so there are some pretty acute shortages across regional South Australia."
