The NDRC’s first major event is a charity ride on October 23.
Club president, Amanda Herringe said, “We have big plans for this little club. After years of toil and frustration with trying to establish insurance, we have finally found a way to once again hold events like this in our town.”
This year the NDRC will be holding its first charity ride with the aim of raising money and awareness of breast cancer, and to remember a well-known local woman who sadly passed away from this terrible disease in November, 2011.
“We are opening the invitation for horsemen, women and children from neighbouring districts to come and join us on this inaugural ride,” Ms Herringe said.
“Our organisation is made up of people with a farming background, some with a competitive spirit and others who just enjoy riding their horses for pleasure.
“We are determined that this ride will be the start of many activities that will help galvanise our community and link us with other groups who share similar interests.
“Improvements to the road from Nowra have made the trip from the coast much easier and we are not far from Goulburn or Braidwood.
“So it is a great opportunity for people from these areas to come and spend a day with us, taking in the countryside on horseback.”
The Charity Ride will take place at Nerriga on October 27.
Riders will commence their ride at the Nerriga sports-ground and will complete a 20km loop through the local farm land and natural bush areas within the community.
This is a ‘must see’ for nature lovers and horse lovers alike.
Afterwards, there will be a dance held at Nerriga Hall to celebrate the day, with the well known entertainer Chalkie White and his Band playing throughout the night.
Chalkie plays a variety of music from rock, through to country, and has played at many local events including the Braidwood Rodeo.
All riders who have participated in the Charity Ride will gain free entry into the dance.
Vice president Lauren Kennedy said; “this ride will be suitable for all horses and riders, and the ride and dance afterwards will be a great way to meet new people as well as raising money for an excellent cause.”
There will be many prizes to be raffled on the day as well as a competition for the best dressed pink horse and rider, who will be the winner of 10 bales of hay and lucerne generously donated by one of our sponsors - Connen Hill Lucerne, Goulburn.
Other Sponsors include Schmidt Quarries, Coolaz Coolers and ID Branding.
The committee is very keen to secure more local sponsorship in support of this inaugural event.
With plans well under way, there is still plenty left to organise to ensure the success of this Charity Ride.
The committee is seeking volunteers to help out during the day and call on anybody who wishes to assist them make this Charity Ride a success will be greatly appreciated.
“We are very excited to see a horse event occur back in our community, Ms Kennedy said.
“Years have gone by since we last saw the Nerriga Bushman’s Carnival, and it has been a shame to lose such a great day.”
“All money that will be raised from the ride and the dance will be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation of Australia.”
“If you are not a rider but you would like to lend a hand on the day, we would love to hear from you.
“You are sure to make new friends and have a good time too.”
