As part of the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal, the kids are knitting squares which will be made into blankets to help disadvantaged members of the community stay warm.
One knitting superstar, Ava Ryan, has already made two full-size blankets. “I love knitting, I do it with my mum at home. I’ve been helping everyone learn at school, too,” she said.
The Year 5 students all volunteered to be ‘mini Vinnies’, and are involved in several social justice projects during the school year.
School religious co-ordinator Lynn Shepherd said the school was incredibly proud of the students’ effort.
“We’re really proud of the way they’ve gotten behind this project,” she said. “It’s also lovely being able to have our older parishioners involved, passing on their skills to the younger generation.”
