For almost 50 years, the Frost family at Hillden Poll Dorset Stud has been selectively breeding quality Poll Dorset rams. They breed Poll Dorset’s which they believe the commercial prime lamb producers require to get the best from their lambs.
Their aim has always been to produce rams that are of true Dorset type with ample length, tremendous fleshing through the loin and hind quarter, with great doing ability in short seasons and ability to recover quickly after unforeseen setbacks.
The stud’s objective is to breed rams that will do the best job for any market, both domestic and export. They aim to breed early maturing suckers, that can also be grown out to export weights.
All rams at Hillden are visually appraised for structural soundness and stock scan performance scanned to give eye muscle depth, fat depth, eye muscle width and overall eye muscle area. This enables purchasers to select rams that will best suit their breeding program.
Hillden has had another successful year in the show ring winning supreme champion Poll Dorset and most successful exhibitor (with only rams) at the recent Australian Sheep and Wool Show in Bendigo. They also claimed reserve champion ram at the NSW Dorset Championships at Cowra in June.
This year’s sale will be held on farm on Friday, November 3 at 2pm. A light lunch will be provided with inspection from 12 noon.
Prior inspections are always welcome.
